Statesville N.C., September 4, 2026 — Gordon Recyclers, Inc. dba L. Gordon Iron and Metal Company announced this week that the 14th Annual David Barringer Memorial Golf Classic - "The BARRINGER" will take place Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Statesville Country Club. The tournament benefits the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont and 100% of funds raised go directly to the Club.
"Do You Love Me?" If you had the chance to know David Barringer, you likely heard him ask that question often. David had the unique ability to converse with anyone effortlessly and make a complete stranger feel like a longtime friend within moments. He loved life, his family, his friends, and his job. David spent more than 30 years with L. Gordon Iron and Metal Company, wearing many hats along the way. From crane operator to yard manager, he gained experience in nearly every aspect of the business.
David wanted to find a way to give back to the community and he believed strongly in the work the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont provides for local children. He loved golf and had many friends who shared his passion. With that in mind, the L. Gordon Iron and Metal Memorial Golf Classic was established in 2012. In its inaugural year, David, his golf buddies, and several L. Gordon employees were able to raise nearly $10,000 for The Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont, the tournament’s sole beneficiary. In the years that followed, the tournament continued to grow, raising over $400,000 for The Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont.
In September of 2019, David was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. He bravely fought the disease until he passed on February 20, 2020, at just 56 years old. David was a dear friend to many and is deeply missed. To honor his memory and his commitment to this tournament, it was renamed the David Barringer Memorial Golf Classic (“The BARRINGER” for short).
What David started in 2012 has grown into something special. This year's tournament organizers are inviting players, sponsors, and donors to join the 14th annual event and help raise as much money as possible for the Boys & Girls Club of the Piedmont, just as David would have done if he were here. The key to the event’s success is the support of businesses and individuals.
